Master of Arts in Theological Studies (M.A.T.S.)

The Master of Arts in Theological Studies is an advanced academic program designed for church leaders, pastors, educators, and Christian professionals who seek to deepen their theological knowledge, sharpen their research skills, and engage the complex spiritual and social challenges of our time. This program prepares graduates for faithful service, transformational leadership, and holistic community impact in South Sudan and beyond.

Mission

The Master's Program at Nile Theological College seeks to provide advanced theological education that nurtures spiritual maturity, academic excellence, biblical faithfulness, and practical ministry skills. The program prepares church leaders, pastors, educators, and Christian professionals to serve the church and society with integrity, wisdom, and Christ-centered leadership.

Program Objectives

The Master's Program aims to:

  • Deepen students' understanding of biblical, theological, and ethical foundations for Christian ministry and leadership
  • Equip students with advanced research and critical thinking skills for theological reflection and academic inquiry
  • Prepare church leaders and ministers to address contemporary spiritual, social, and cultural challenges within the context of South Sudan and the global church
  • Strengthen pastoral, teaching, counseling, and leadership competencies for effective ministry
  • Promote Christian character, spiritual formation, and servant leadership rooted in biblical values
  • Foster ecumenical understanding, peacebuilding, reconciliation, and justice in communities affected by conflict and social divisions
  • Develop competent theological educators and scholars who can contribute to theological institutions, churches, and Christian organizations
  • Encourage contextual theology that responds to African realities while remaining faithful to the authority of Scripture
  • Prepare graduates for advanced academic research and further doctoral studies in theology and related disciplines

Who Is This Program For?

  • Graduates with a Bachelor of Theology or equivalent degree pursuing further academic study
  • Those preparing for doctoral studies in theology or related fields

Admission Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) or a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution
  • A cumulative GPA of at least 2.7 (on a 4.0 scale) in undergraduate studies
  • A personal statement of calling, vocational goals, and research interests
  • Two letters of recommendation (one pastoral, one academic)
  • An interview with the M.A.T.S. admissions committee
  • A writing sample demonstrating academic competence in theological studies
